One day, I found the printer, the one that connects to my PC, is broken. I can not open the scan cover. The printing function is fine. I am wondering what happened to it.
Here is the back look of Canon imageClass MF4450.
See the right part, it popped up, not sitting properly.
I tried to open the cover and saw the broken part of MF4450.
ADF Hinger
I googled it and found it is ADF Hinger.
ADF means the automatic document feeder. It is very harder to find it on the market. But I am lucky, I order it at AliExpress.com and the price is still reasonable.
The price of $6.97 is for a pair of hinges.
I ordered it on Jan 18. and later I received it on Feb 4. I would like to make another post about how I replace the broken part and fix the problem.
Markings (second attempt – angle braces around ‘POM’ broke some of what I wrote about the markings):
Bottom of hinge body:
Original: DP0941 POM KF3
AliExpress: DP09411 POM KFA3
Side of black hinge arm (identical markings):
Original/AliExpress: DP0951 KF4 POM
Thanks again for the blog post David!
this happened to me….have no idea why this broke…come into work and cannot open the lid…same as your photo….buy why did it happen?
Anyway…mystery. Did the replacement work well?
Yes. It works.
I have a MF4890dw that has the same problem and it hasn’t been badly handled. I am pretty sure the spring manages to break/separate the bottom of the hinge holder by constant and long-term force (the spring is very strong). When this happens, it pushes against the bottom of the hole the hinge sits in and manages to push the grey/white hinge body upwards and against the cross brace that holds the hinge in place with the screw. This cross brace fails (middle held down, left and right sides pushed up with the hinge body. It seems like a poor design..
Yes, poor design.
Or the material of the white plastic is not good enough.
I wanted to follow up and share some information after successfully replacing the hinge on my MF4890dw. As far as I can tell there is not a concise reference to the part number for the hinge on this particular unit. I found some hints (ex: Canon PN FC0-1638-000) but this was not available cheaply enough to take the gamble. I found a replacement that looked identical on AliExpress (details below) and, with it in-hand and replaced, I can confirm that it is an equivalent replacement despite not calling out the 4890dw module number.
Seller: “SWZN Store”
Description: “Printer ADF Hinge For Canon MF 4410 4412 4420 4430 4450 4453 4550 4553 4554 4570 4710 4712 4730 4580 4750 4752 4770 210 211 215”
Cost: CAD$24.18 (two hinge lot)
There are cosmetic differences – the hinges I received both have a white body whereas the originals in my unit were grey. The dimensions, ribs/reinforcement, and fit are identical to the original.
Markings:
Bottom of hinge body:
Original: DP0941 >POMPOMPOMPOM<
In any case, I hope that someone else who comes across this might find these hints helpful to save some time and hesitance as to whether the replacement would work.
