Every website should be added to Google Search Console by its owner. It is the best way to expose the web pages to Google Search Index.

How to add a website property to Search Console?

Follow the link above to find the official guide to add your website property to Google Search Console.

A property is the term for a discrete thing you can examine or manage in Search Console.

From the overview page, I can see the general performance of my site in Google Search.

9475 Clicks during the past three months.  It means there are 9475 web suffers who search something on Google Search and saw a lot of Search Results including the web pages of my site. At last, they click the link on my webpage and land on my website.

The Indexing tab is shown how many pages are indexed in Google Search.

Look, 3590 indexed pages. It is quite a lot for a Blog. There are still a lot of pages that are not indexed.  Most of them are “Alternate page with proper canonical tag”. I am not worried about them.

The Experience and Enhancements parts are also in the overview tab.

In the Experience, the webpage basic on-page performance is shown as is.  I checked the Mobile Performance. I believe it still some room to improve the performance.

I will check these web pages and fix them one by one.

For example, The Mobile page experience score is 76.6%, I checked the details of it.

Look at the bottom, 440 Failing URLs of Core Web Vistals, and 23 Failing URLs of Mobile Usability. I clicked the number 23 for details.

If I continue to click the “Content wider than screen”, I will get a list of these 23 URLs which has this kind of issue. It gives me a way to find which webpage has a problem, and what kind of problem it is. Then I can fix it.

I have been using Google Analytics for many years. It was a fantastic website analytics tool for all kinds of users. The recent change, or upgrade, from Universal Analytics / UA to GA4, makes everything different.

A lot of people do not like GA4. It is too complicated and not friendly for small website owners. Just like me, I switched to using Matomo on May 5, 2023.

You can use the cloud version, which is SaaS. But, I prefer the on-premise version. I installed it on my own server and use it internally.

traffic May 2nd week

Look at the web traffic. It is about 100 visits per day.

GeoMap

For my website visitors, most of them are using Desktops.

At the same time, I am using Advanced Web Statistics 7 with the site log file.

Awstats report - 2023.5. first half month

The report tells some insight into the website traffic based on the log files.

At the Awstats:

Roughly 650 visits per day. 2000+ pages per day.

If I compare these data with my 2019 post, the daily traffic is almost the same.

I am going to write more and make the promotion. I hope I can double the traffic in two weeks.

There are many ways and tools to drive traffic to a website. I will pick some and wish it works.

Recently Google made four changes to its Search Console Index Coverage report. It let website owners or site administrators better understanding the indexing issues.

 

  • Removal of the generic “crawl anomaly” issue type – now all crawl errors should be mapped to an issue with a finer resolution.
  • Pages that were submitted but blocked by robots.txt and got indexed are now reported as “Indexed, though blocked by robots.txt” instead of “submitted but blocked” (error)

  • Addition of a new issue: “indexed without content”(warning)
  • Soft 404 reporting is more accurate.

These changes are rolled out from yesterday. But I can see some changes already implemented in my Google Search Console.

Google’s official blog post announced this 2021 January update yesterday.

To make the website get a higher ranking in the Google Search Results Page, the site owner should get his website, web pages indexed by Google Search Engine, first. Without the index, no ranking.

I did the following improvements to my blog yesterday.

  • Change the WordPress theme configuration.
  • Change the default picture size.
  • Start to fix the errors or warnings reported in Google Search Console.
  • Write a post.

I am looking forward to publishing more posts in the rest days of the week.

It is a new year, 2019. Almost passed the first quarter.

I would like to increase Blog traffic in 2019. So, It is a new two weeks campaign.

There are certain things I will do on my blog.

  • Clean the old post.
  • Fix or remove the broken links.
  • Blog UI re-design or change.
  • Improve the web page load speed.
  • Fix the featured image of each post.
  • Make more post on my Blog.
  • Promote the Blog on Search Engine.
  • Promote the Blog on Social Media Site.
  • Connection with other blog and/or web sites.
  • On-site optimization.

Changes are tough and painful. But if no changes, it will die.

I already prepared tons of resources. Make the blog better, make more traffic.

Total 2,987 sessions. Page/session is 1.22.

As a personal blog, web traffic is very small. Compared to the traffic before, it is also smaller. I will give a report in the early next month. Show the comparison of Feb and March.

The new blog campaign started on March 19, 2019. So maybe I can not call it “two weeks campaign”. I should call it ten days campaign for Blogging.

Say, I have a web site. I host it with SSL.

I want all these three type of host go to the same Unique Internet Address.

To:

There are some requirement:

  • Nginx v1.8
  • SSL Certificate is issued for both  example.com and www.example.com

I have the website config file in /etc/nginx/sites-available/example.com

Add following into it.

I have my Five tips for newbies in 2014.

1) Complete your Profile

Of course, you should have a twitter account. If you don’t have it, just register one on Twitter web site.

When you have your account, sign in and click the right gear icon on the top navigation banner. Then, click Edit Profile.

You’d better to complete all information on this page.  Such as photo, header, website URL, Bio. The URL in the Bio will automatically be click-able link.

They will be shown on the Profile summary page, when people search you. Very important.

2) How to use Search

A good search tool has same features. User friendly.

Easy to search other users; easy to search event; easy to search tweets.

Twitter has it own search, powerfully.

For example, I input “Global” in the search box. Twitter provides auto-suggestion terms in the pull-down list. You can find some just a suggested keywords, some with avatar are users. And sometimes it will show you some terms with hashtag #, it is used to search tagged content. These search functions are very helpful. User does not have to think how to input the search terms in the search box.

There are some search tips for you:

  • Search keywords exactly: put two or three words inside of quote.
  • Search either one of two words: put or in the middle of two words.
  • Do not include one word in the search results: put the minus sign in front of this word.

3) Check the hot topic, or Twitter trends

Above is the Trends when I sign in my account. The trends is provided based on my account, history, or the people I follow.

You can also see Worldwide Trends, if you are not sign in. It is interesting to see what people focused in other places.

4) Use twitter desktop application

Twitter did not have good web interface previously. It changed or upgraded many time. Now it is better. But somebody still want to use third-party desktop tool, just like me. Most of time I use MetroTwit. There are some choice for you, tweetdesk (now it is by twitter), MetroTwit, hootsuite, janetter. You can try to install every each desktop tool and try at least one or two days. Then make your choice.

5) Figure out who is influential on Twitter

Just see who has the most followers. But don’t worry about it. Twitter automatically recommends followees for new accounts. There are also some websites provide the service. Go to following web site and see if it is interesting. If you like it, just follow them. Then you will have something on your timeline.

It is a hard task for a newbie, to get more audience from social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, Stack Overflow, etc.

From my point of view, More audience from Facebook, means more Likes on Facebook Page. Otherwise, you need a lot of fans/friends on your Facebook account.

To get more likes or share on your Facebook page, you should know some key facts.

  • More Likes on photos than those on video, links.
  • More Likes in the weekends than those in the weekdays.
  • More Likes at night than those at the day time.

So, post or make an update on your Facebook pages with above guide.

Twitter, is another Social Media. I feel it is much more interactive between two peers than other social media.

Now I have 700 followers. I would like to have more followers.

The purpose of my Top Five Web Design Rules is to maximize Web Site usability.

Easy to read

Think about the audience, they using variety computers, monitors, Internet connections. They may have difficult to read tiny letter, color blind.

Text size, image size and paragraph organization.

Easy to navigate

It means the target audience of your site should know where they are at all times when they visit your Web Site. If they get lost, they are able to go to home page, a site search, or a category list from any page on your site to determine: 1) where they are, 2) where they might want to go, and 3) where they have been.

Easy to find

It doesn’t mean your Web site can be easily found on Search Engine. It means the target audience who arrives on your site can quickly find the main products, main services, or what ever you want to offer to them.

 

Consistent in layout and design

Layout means the arrangement of the content on the web page. Make sure the text, graphic images, and navigation schemes are consistent in the whole site.

And design is the fonts, typefaces, color scheme. Do not make your target audience confuse when they navigate on your site.

Quick to download

Fast download the elements of the web page, render the web page fast are one of the important performance issue for web site. I put a lot of effort on it when I optimize my server, but it is also one of important rule for Web Design. Keep it simple, stupid. Make the web site simple, simple graphic, simple js, etc.  Otherwise, even the server is much faster than others, the web site still very slow to show the content to audience just because of the poor design.
