VPS performance benchmark - Contabo VPS

It is a brand-new VPS, created on Contabo yesterday. It is a cloud VPS S, with 4vCPU cores, 8GB memory, and 200GB SSD storage, including 32TB transfer.

The monthly cost of this VPS is $6.

I changed the TCP Congestion Control Algorithms to BBR.

Contabo is a German company. It offers low-cost professional hosting solutions for businesses. It specializes in VPS, Dedicated Servers, Object Storage, etc.

YABS completed in 11 min 46 sec

The single Core score is low. Only 949. The connection or bandwidth is under 200Mbits/sec. The SSD performance is not good.

But the best part I want is 8GB ram. I need it for my Email server. I would like to run a self-host email server on it. Compared with the Vultr or DigitalOcean VPS, it is much cheaper and solid. The monthly payment is $8.49.

I ran a similar test on my Vultr VPS one year ago. One core score of GeekBench 4 is 5759.

What is the score under GeekBench 6?

It is only 819 on Single Core.

Control Panel

Their control panel of customers is very old-school.

Support

The support is so special. They have 64 supporting staff waiting for the customers. Basically email support, or Call support (regular landline, not an 800 toll-free number). Especially it is only available from 8 am to 11 pm German local time. Luckily Contabo supports us 365 days.

For my location, my time. The support time window is from 1 AM to 11 AM. Not too bad.

Setup Fee

Yes, you are right. It is a setup fee. I can not remember how long I have not seen this kind of fee.

If you want to order a VPS and pay month by month, the setup fee is $8.49. If you choose a three-month term, it is $6.99. The 6-month term is $3.99. $0 setup fee if you choose to pay annually.

It is my first time using Contabo VPS. So I paid monthly.

DDoS Protection

It is FREE of charge to all customers. It is activated automatically.

Different prices by Region

The base price is in Germany, in any other region you have to pay extra for it. In Asia is much more expensive.

In some parts of the world electricity, cooling, and bandwidth are more expensive. That is why we charge a Location Fee in some Regions

Yes, it is reasonable.

Storage alternative

I can choose 200GB SSD or 50GB NVme at the same cost.

If you need more storage space like me, you will choose SSD for sure.
