We use IM very often in the office and home.
You may install a lot of IM client software like me. Including MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk, etc. If you has Chinese friends, you might have QQ either.
I hate that they use different Protocol, and they can not communicate with others. Do we have a Universal tool to have them in one client application?
The answer is YES.
Pidgin is what I would like to introduce to you.
pidgin-web

What is Pidgin?
Pidgin is a multi-protocol Instant Messaging client that allows you to use all of your IM accounts at once.

Pidgin can work with:
* AIM
* Bonjour
* Gadu-Gadu
* Google Talk
* Groupwise
* ICQ
* IRC
* MSN
* MySpaceIM
* QQ
* SILC
* SIMPLE
* Sametime
* XMPP
* Yahoo!
* Zephyr
This software is released under GPL 2. That means you can use it free and free to modify it. But if you want to distribute your modified version, you have put it under GPL2 too.
Currently, I have the latest version 2.2.1 installed on my office computer. I have following IM account in this one Pidgin installation:
1) Two MSN accounts,
2) One Yahoo account,
3) One QQ account, It does not work temporarily.
4) One Google Talk account,
So that I have one IM client, Pidgin, instead of four software running on my computer. Save the memory and improve the performance.
The Windows version can download here
It is about 10MB.
